Headline Malaysia (Background Photograph)
Caption Description All of the 11,000 residents on the island of Ketam are fishermen and the main industry is the catching of prawns. Communication between the island and the mainland recently was established when a radio-telephone station was installed by the Ministry of Telecommunications. The Telecommunications Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur, aided by the United Nations Special Fund and the International Telecommunication Union, assisted in the training of the staff that operates the station.

Some figurines are placed in front of a newly built Hindu Temple to protect fishermen when they go to sea. The scene is in Lima, a fishing village on the island of Ketam. [c. April 1964]
