Headline
Greece’s Institute for Plant Cultivation
Caption Description
The Institute was established in 1925, to searchfor new strains of wheat which would give better yields; later its research work was extended to other kinds of plants, such as oats, barley, maize, potatoes, etc. The Institute has a number of substations, and a large network of experimental fields throughout the country. After the war it was provided with new buildings, in Salonica, and modern scientific and agricultural equipment. The work of the Institute’s staff contributed to increase the quantity and quality of the crops grown by Greek farmers.
This picture shows three of the Institute’s employees filling up bags and envelopes with selected seeds.
