Headline Soviet Union Presents Gifts to United Nations

Caption Description Formal presentation of two gifts of the Soviet Union to the United Nations took place today in a ceremony at UN Headquarters. One is a model of the first Sputnik launched in the USSR in 1957, and the other is a statue, ""Let Us Beat Swords into Ploughshares"", by the Soviet sculptor, Evgeniy Vuchetich.
In the public lobby of the Assembly building, Mr. V. V. Kuznetsov, USSR First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (facing, left, behind microphone) addressing those present, as the ceremony is filmed for UN-television. Mr. Kuznetsov made the presentation, on behalf of his delegation, to UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld who accepted the gifts on behalf of the UN. Dr. Victor A. Belaunde (Peru), President of the current (14th) session of the UN General Assembly, is standing between Mr. Kuznetsov and Mr. Hammarskjöld. The sputnik model is seen above the group in the public lobby, and a picture of the statue to be placed in the UN gardens is in the background.
